The VooDoo has had the opportunity to interview the Supersuckers! In case you did not know... The Supersuckers have the reputation of "the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world"
The interview below was with the guitarist Rontrose...Enjoy!
The Interview:
1) Who first considered the SuperSuckers the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world, and how did you get the title to stick?
- We have always maintained that. It really is the truth. I believe the first person to point this out to us was Lemmy. We were on tour with Motorhead and he just blurted out from the stage. Since then we have spred the word on tour and if tell people something enough times (true or not, in this case true) it will stick. I mean check out the line of B.S, our government hands us everyday.
2) When does the new rawk cd come out?
- It is going to be released in pieces on Itunes starting in June. The full album will come out at the end of the year (hopefully).
3) Any good collaborations in the works? Anyone that you'd like to work with?
- We don't have anything in the works right now. Those things come up pretty last minute. We might do some stuff with the Eagles Of Death Metal. I am trying to get Billy Gibbons on the next record. I would love to work with him.
4) You have toured with some awesome bands, I am partial to the Rev and the Toadies after living in Dallas/Ft.Worth for 12 years. Who were your favorite bands to tour with and Do you have a good story to share?
- I really enjoyed touring with Mudhoney back in the day. They are always fun to hang out with. One time Duff Mckeagan asked if he could sit in with Mudhoney on a song and Matt said sure! He asked Matt what key the song was in and Matt replied with out any sense of irony "what's key"? Geat rock moment I happened to witness.
5) How was it playing Willie Nelson's daughter's wedding reception?
- Great!! Little honky tonk oustside of Austin. The Moms really cut loose. Billy Joe Shaver got up and did a couple of songs with us. That ruled. A fun night for all.
6) What cover songs do people request most often? Are there any that you're tired of playing?
- Most requests are for our own songs that we didn't play. I suppose the Cowboy Song is one that gets a lot of requests. I never really tire of playing anything. It is the one place where all your problems get put on hold and you can step outside yourself.
7) Was it weird being part of the Seattle "grunge" scene back in the day?
- It wasn't weird. It was exciting and upon looking back at that time I'd say we were more observers than in it. We got to do a lot of shows with the so called grunge bands and that was great. There really was a feeling of what the hell is going on here? It was kinda crazy. Saw some killer shows and had a lot of fun, too much fun at times.
8) What do you think can be improved on with rock n' roll music these days?
- Songs!! Where are all the great tunes. We can't write em all. There is a lot of great stuff out there though, you just have to scratch beneath the surface. The access we have to music these days is staggering. It is going to continue to grow and fracture. It think that in any time in history there has been a shit load of crap and a few great things. It will probably always be that way.
Thanks, Rontrose. |
