It was a lazy Saturday afternoon, with a Heineken in one hand and my iPod in the
other, that I came across The Morning Benders. I remembered their last album,
Talking Through Tin Cans, as one of those catchy sing-along albums. The
Boarded Doors music video left a lasting image every teenage boyhood fantasy. It
occurred to me that I had downloaded their new album, Grain of Salt, a
couple weeks ago but never had the time to focus on the album. Once again, Chris
Chu, Julian Harmon, Tim Orr and Joe Farrell managed to come up with a rhythmic
collaboration of the Beatles, the Shins, and Pink Floyd to call it their own. After kicking off with Grain of Salt, Your Dark Side came on.
It
was a slow hypnotic song that brought a serious reminder of the troubles of our
country in this point in history. As I slowly drifted away in the acoustic
melody of Morning Fog, it was a feeling that amidst of our turbulent
economic times, that artists like the Morning Benders can still produce music that I
enjoy listening to.
